J. Theodorus Cuypers

Johannes Theodorus Cuypers born in the year 1724 in Dornick, nr. Emmerich, Germany and died in 1808. Cyupers worked in “The Hague” for around 50 years. Sometimes Cuypers is mentioned as one of the first in the North of Europe in using the models of Stradivari. Such as Möller marked, he would be able to consider a more “Napolitano” Stradivari model of it which is “Cremones”. Many violinists know Cuypers as the king of the good sound, with the most affordable award, the Dutch Gagliano. They are very popular instruments. With the help of two of the sons of Johanes Theodorus, Johannes Franciscus (1766-1828) and Johannes Bernardus (1781-1840), the garage of Cuypers was very productive. Though the garage carried out a constant good quality of manufacture and the instruments were well known for their good acourstic quality, the work of the father considers itself as the best, therefore it is the most desirable and a little more valued than the work of his sons.

Max Möller, Amsterdam (1955), was marking that playing something rustic that appears in the last works of Cuypres is due to that two of his sons participated and did asistance of their father.

Perhaps this will explain why Cuypers last works are more common them that he did when he began his career. In this last period, the back in only one piece instead of two pieces, were common. Due to the help of the sons, the garage of Johannse Cuypers has been very productive and it was, in general, the principal of unanimous form regarding to which the Dutch Lutheria refers to.
