Matteo Goffriller

His first work was with the Tyrolean school, much later he went to Venecia, around the year 1685, he was the pupil and the assistant of Martin Kaiser of whose garage he took over much kater. The violins, violas and cellos of Goffriller are praised and classified between the best concert instruments. Some of them, the excessively large models, had to be decreased in order that they were playable. However, the sound quality did not suffer for that. The beautiful work is beautiful but without being rigid. The spirals are characteristical, big, beautiful cuttings, with a big fortress and slightly inclined towards the front. In occasions, the endings of the bills end with slightly stretched corners. On the other hand, he worked of Stadivari and Carlo Berhonzi. He made the tuning fork and the borders more amplified, the F holes elegant and cut in the vertical position, working hand example; wood of impeccable fine grain. The bottom is mainly composed of one piece. Their cellos are beautiful with a powerful tone, for the bottom they were using a beautiful wood of rich maple, they rarely used poplar wood. Excellent varnish, of a brown reddish colour, sometimes with a true degree of oscurity, sometimes an old gold colour or yellowy orange.

The Goffriller cello had been falsely attributed in the past to the Guarneri family, Carlo Bergonzi or even Antonio Stradivari, in reality they were known until the decade of 1920, when they began to be forgotten. The Goffriller cello of the year 1733, which was the property of Pablo Casals, originally attributed itself to Bergonzi. His first authenticated instrument is a Viola Gamba of the date 1689.
